About

Hello and Namaste,

I am a homemaker and a mother of three grown children, and grandmother of two lovely little boys. I live in Delhi now with my husband, but my food has been influenced by my life all over the world: I’ve lived in different cities within India, and I’ve also lived in England, Sierra Leone, the Philippines, and the United States. Each one of those places has left its mark on my Bengali cooking, and on the recipes that I’m sharing with you.

I started writing this blog during the pandemic. I thought it was a good idea to share my recipes with my children and siblings and family. My Bengali recipes are mostly learnt from my mother, mother-in-law, and grandmothers and also from the cooks who worked for me and at my mother-in–law’s place. Some of the ingredients for making the Bengali dishes may not be easily available outside Kolkata and it may require some effort to procure them. I have included recipes that are not traditionally Bengali as well.

My husband and I like to entertain, so we often have friends and family over for dinners and lunches. Our everyday food at home is traditional Bengali fare, which generally includes a fish or meat, a vegetable dish, and dal, but often a little more, like a chutney. Maybe someday my children will want to make something like the Macher Jhol they used to have in their childhood and find the recipe here.
